Because at the end of the day, you can give the kiddos back to the parents.
Alternate title for this post: the four-time-reheated coffee.
Seriously. I don’t think I had two sips in sequence.
It all started bright and early…at 7:30 AM to be exact.
We served up breakfast…
…but at you can see, the kids were a bit distracted.
Ernie has a tendency to do that. I’d like to say orange skinned puppets aren’t my thing, but they must have some sort of audience…
Anyways, once we cleaned up the hash browns, toast, eggs, and blueberries it was time to color.
Precious.
Poor Mr. Turtle had no idea what was coming.
Patience may not be her strong suit, but then, she’s only two. The perfectionist in me gets exasperated for far more pathetic reasons, and I have twenty (plus) years on her.
Rather than force Picasso to try again, we decided to take the girls to the park.
We loaded up with crackers, raisins, water bottles, and off we went! Swings, tunnels, slides, oh my!
And yet, the trip lasted only slightly longer than the ponytails.
We were back home in an hour and the girls were just as energetic as ever (why am I the only one ready for nap time?!?). Thank goodness for Hip Hop Harry and Sesame Street…it kept them preoccupied for at least another hour.
But they had one track minds, and all they wanted was the pool. Not the water basin. The pool.
In case you were wondering, there IS something worse than changing diapers…and that would be changing wet swimsuit diapers. Lunch only added to that fun.
What started as yummy turned into a cheese throwing contest…so yeah…I took that to mean they were done with lunch.
Kyle tried to rock them to sleep while I cleaned up (“tried” being the operative word). The little one succumbed to the eyelid drooping, so at least we had the kid-to-adult-ratio working in our favor after that.
Kyle and I took advantage and snuck in our own lunches (taking turns of course). Notice the portable nature of my eats (chasing a 2 year old with a salad…not so much).
Costco also assisted in a major way. It’s like I’m nursing again, stealing bites away in 3 second windows of free time. Needless to say, I was ready to pass out by 4. As much as I ADORE those girls, the doorbell was like music to my ears.
In fact, I was so friggin’ exhausted, I didn’t take any pics for the rest of the day. I can summarize the evening in very few words though: I made love to a tub of hummus.
I said it before and I’ll say it again, I have SO MUCH respect for parents. Kyle and I were both in bed by 10. Enough said.
That pic of Kyle is adorable!!!
Sounds like quite a busy day! I’m looking forward to being an aunt sometime in the near future:)
I love that picture of the little one virtually hanging off Kyle’s leg whilst the other one’s having her bottle! Awesome. I’m not an aunt yet but I certainly hope I’m an aunt before I’m a mum. You’re right, motherhood seems like a lot of hardwork! I’ll stick to nursing for now 🙂
I once babysat for 3 little boys — 5,7, and 9. I was nearly dead by sundown!
babysitting = best birth control. EVER.
haha. EXACTLY!!!
Next time Someone said your blog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me around this place. I am talking about, I know it was my choice to read, on the other hand actually thought youd have something interesting to express. All I hear is a variety of whining about something you could fix should you werent too busy seeking attention.
