Back to school lunches?

Oh my goodness we are ALREADY back to packing lunches?

I guess not really “packing”, since nobody is leaving.

Here’s my strategy though…I am still going to create an at home lunch time/recess just like they would have at school.

I am still going to pack them lunch boxes the night before, that they will then take outside with them for a pre-set amount of time. After they finish eating they can simply stay outside and play until the lunch recess period is over. This is actually for my own sanity more than anything else because it eliminates the option of more/less/different items and it means I don’t have to deal with how long it takes them to eat (because they have very different paces and it can sometimes make lunch time annoying).

Left: turkey and mayo sandwich + blueberries + baby carrots
Right: tortilla with cream cheese + baby carrots + fresh figs

Left: sun butter and honey sandwich + mozzarella + peaches + snap peas
Right: bagel with cream cheese + banana + cocoa coconut oat bites + apples + snap peas + cucumber

Left: veggie burgers cooked in a dry skillet from frozen
Right: on a bun with hummus and ketchup (top not shown) + bell peppers

These are just a few random lunches I happened to photograph over the “summer” in case you need inspo. Some are snacks. Some are meals. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference.

Almost anything can be made allergy friendly at this point.

  • Kite Hill is a totally affordable non-dairy cheese brand that is available in most major grocery stores.
  • Sir Kensington and Nasoya are my favorite mayo brands and they make a ton of different varieties
  • Every nut butter under the sun now exists (Barney’s is made in a peanut free facility if you are worried about cross contamination)

I will try to remember to take pics going forward if you want more ideas, but I wrote a post here that should help in the meantime.
