About Elise
I’m a nurse. An exercise lover. A whole foods connoisseur. A health enthusiast. And I have IBS. No need to cue the sappy violin music yet...
I’ve found that eating a mostly plant-based diet has allowed me to continue to live and love life to the fullest. Although moderation isn’t something I do well, I’m 100% devoted to giving my body pure, wholesome, quality food. Nutritious and delicious, all the time.
Hungry Hungry Hippie is a way for me to share my daily dealings with food, fitness, and everything in between.
My parents went to pick out our new puppy yesterday! I say “our” but I don’t live at home anymore, so it’s really theirs. But since it took over 3 months for all 5 family members to agree on the name, it’s safe to say it’s the family puppy. We had a German Shepherd when I was growing up, too. So we really wanted another. My mom holding Milo. Could he BE any cuter??? He’s only 4 weeks old now, so we have to wait ‘til he’s a bit older (and no longer breast… Read more >

Florence Nightingale that is! Not exactly a major holiday, and probably not on the “normal” person’s radar, but tomorrow is her birthday and also the end of nurses week. Speaking of which, you all were SO sweet with those comments about my job. It’s nice to be able to talk about other parts of my life on a (mostly) food blog and know that readers aren’t snoozing (or scrolling) through it. OK…now that the sappy stuff is over with and I’ve satisfied the quota for random trivia-of-the-day, I’ll move on to the comida. What’s wrong… Read more >

Welllll…this weekend was pretty intense. I worked. I saved lives. Literally. I try not to go into too much detail about my job (a) because of the whole patient privacy thing and (b) because I have a feeling it’s not very thrilling to read about. But sometimes I wish I could share all the crazy things I see and do on a daily basis because, well, it’s a big part of my life. Or at least a part. Anyways, as I’ve mentioned before, I work in the cardiopulmonary critical care unit (CPCU), which is the… Read more >

Apparently I have to choose between saving for a wedding, and keeping up with the food blog fads. So, in the interest of staying engaged, I’m unable to juice for breakfast. No, not that kind of juice. This kind. So I settled for the poor man’s version (aka a smoothie). Into the blender went: 1/2 cup almond milk, 1/2 cup OJ, 3 oz POM, applesauce cup, frozen plain tofu cubes… and the juice of 1 orange (hand squeezed). Nice before and after, no? The predominant color is the almond milk and plain tofu. Good thing… Read more >

I thought it was Friday all day…so confused. Whatever, Thursday means The Office, so it’s all good. 5 AM. Frothed me some coffee…and then I was off to work! Since I was running crazy late, I had this little baby on the way to work. For the record, I do NOT enjoy eating on the subway, especially when I’m drenched from my rainy mad dash to the station. As usual, I made my lunch the night before to bring to work, which included a hugh jass salad of spinach, brocc slaw, shredded carrots, cherry… Read more >
