About Elise
I’m a nurse. An exercise lover. A whole foods connoisseur. A health enthusiast. And I have IBS. No need to cue the sappy violin music yet...
I’ve found that eating a mostly plant-based diet has allowed me to continue to live and love life to the fullest. Although moderation isn’t something I do well, I’m 100% devoted to giving my body pure, wholesome, quality food. Nutritious and delicious, all the time.
Hungry Hungry Hippie is a way for me to share my daily dealings with food, fitness, and everything in between.
After working a few days in a row, I just wanted to sleep in ‘til noon today. Unfortunately, my circadian rhythm wasn’t in on the game plan. I was up and getting my caffeine on by 8. A few days ago, this lovely package arrived from NuNaturals, so I was thrilled to have a massive fake sugar free NuStevia filled cuppa-joe. As usual, I brewed and frothed… Then, I added 3 drops of Vanilla Stevia to the Caffe Froth, and 1 packet of NuStevia white powder to the coffee. Perfection. No bitter after-taste. Not too… Read more >

I worked both days this weekend. So on Saturday, while everyone else was frolicking in the sun, I was dealing with my patient who decided she was through with the hospital, and removed her own chest tube. Don’t worry, she’s fine (physically at least…psych-wise I’m still on the fence). Anyways. Yummy pre-packed food includes: raisin/almond/cashew/carob chip mix, dried mango/papaya, Tribe hummus mini-tub, apple, raw salad, and some bars. Odwalla Superfood (I heart every green millimeter of this flavor) and a Cashew Cookie Larabar (also a favorite). The rest of the day flew by uneventfully (just… Read more >

I have some catching up to do! Rewind to Friday AM: It was as if Kyle timed his return from Brazil perfectly with my sunrise barista session. As soon as the froth was poured, who came strutting through the doorway? My long lost fiancé South American traveler! His flight got in from Sao Paolo soopah early, so we got to enjoy breks together. Figures his arrival would be perfectly timed with my cooking coffee. I needed caffeine before things start to click, so after one cup of java, I was AAOx3 (nursing joke, sorry). Fruity… Read more >

Friday’s dinner deserves it’s own post. I don’t think there are words nearly adequate enough to describe the night I had. Not only was the company delightful, but the meal – OMG – I could go on about it for hours (which I did, much to Kyle’s delight). Just looking at the pictures now, I am having flashbacks with a Pavlovian type response. Drool! I met up with the one and only Miss VeggieGirl on Friday night too excited for words…her pimpa$$ hotel was within walking distance of PURE so we ended up only moderately… Read more >

Today was more bizarre than George Whipple’s eyebrows. It started off normal – java with foam, you know… Then I had an apple. Still fairly normal, right? Well, suddenly I felt beyond sick. Like, go to the bathroom and wait for the puke to come. Wha?! I felt okay-ish if I remained supine (that’s lying flat for you non-medical peeps), but every time I tried to sit up, I felt like I was gonna heave-ho. No bueno. I’ve never felt so bizarre…like head-achy, dizzy, with some weakness, too. Even though I’m a nurse, I really… Read more >
