About Elise

I’m a nurse. An exercise lover. A whole foods connoisseur. A health enthusiast. And I have IBS. No need to cue the sappy violin music yet... I’ve found that eating a mostly plant-based diet has allowed me to continue to live and love life to the fullest. Although moderation isn’t something I do well, I’m 100% devoted to giving my body pure, wholesome, quality food. Nutritious and delicious, all the time. Hungry Hungry Hippie is a way for me to share my daily dealings with food, fitness, and everything in between.

The Big O, the Big V, the Big C

Curious about day 3 of alphebruary?  Here’s a teaser. But before I get into that, I wanted to hear people’s thoughts on the way Oprah discussed veganism on a recent episode of her show.  I was talking whining about it to my mom yesterday and she brought up some good points.  So, I’m not going to be the bitter vegan that brings up all the issues I had with it because after some consideration, I’m just happy veganism is getting the spotlight at all (regardless of the reasons The Big O is choosing to showcase… Read more >

Barley Irony

Yes, I ate more than my arame-zing salad yesterday. I had breakfast (Alvarado Street sprouted bread with peanut butter, banana slices, and cinnamon). Lunch (wrap). And dinner. My latest batch of log seitan was in both lunch and dinner. What a Monday

I didn’t leave the apartment all day.  I didn’t get a WINK of shut eye (I’ve been up for over 55 hours straight).  I ate half the bag of cereal (I lost track after bowl number 4).  I watched the entire first season of 30 Rock. I attacked a jar of peanut butter with nothing but a spoon. I rocked sweat pants the entire time.  Oh, and I polished off the last few slices of vegan cheesecake.  The crust was still perfectly moist and crumbly (CoverMate what whaaaat). Tomorrow starts Alphebruary :)

Vampire weekend and a new project

This weekend was not my finest in terms of scheduling.  With back to back night shifts, day time yoga classes, and the desire to squeeze in a run when the sun came out from hiding, there was hardly any time for sleeping.  Ambitious?  Or ridiculous?  Either way, I snacked much more than I composed real meals because my body was so out of whack with all the time adjustments.  Awake all night, asleep all morning, awake all afternoon…sometimes it’s just too confusing for my poor GI system.   I wound up finding a solution in… Read more >
