About Elise
I’m a nurse. An exercise lover. A whole foods connoisseur. A health enthusiast. And I have IBS. No need to cue the sappy violin music yet...
I’ve found that eating a mostly plant-based diet has allowed me to continue to live and love life to the fullest. Although moderation isn’t something I do well, I’m 100% devoted to giving my body pure, wholesome, quality food. Nutritious and delicious, all the time.
Hungry Hungry Hippie is a way for me to share my daily dealings with food, fitness, and everything in between.
Happy (belated) St. Patrick’s Day! I seriously forgot to wear green – yikes! My grandpa would disown me if he knew such a thing! This is also the first St. Patty’s in a long time that I didn’t celebrate with green beer. I’ll try and make up for it this weekend. But more on those plans later. I definitely had a rough time waking up yesterday morning. It didn’t help that midnight came and went and I was still awake… My alarm buzzed me back to life at 4:20, at which point Jillian and I… Read more >

Miracle of miracles, my breakfast held me over until my lunch break at 1 pm. That NEVER happens! I have this cute bowl to thank. :) Attune foods hooked it up at Expo West – not only did I get this on-the-go bowl (like a sippy cup for adults), but I also got to fill it with whatever cereals I wanted. As a huge cereal addict, this was one of the highlights of the Natural Foods show. I could hardly contain my excitement combining all the cereals to make one mega-master-mix. Uncle Sam – check! … Read more >

Monday started bright and early (well, if we are being technical about it, I never went to bed Sunday night…sooo…I guess it started at the stroke of midnight?). Whatever. I got home around 8 am and immediately showered, put on my PJs, and started some oats on the stove. I added a chopped gala to cook with the oats. By the way, this was a pretty hefty batch (in the 2 cup range). Can you believe this bowl was only half the yield? I was feeling crazy so I decided to bust open a… Read more >

The combo of daylight savings and working night shifts allows for food photography with much improved lighting. At least that’s the silver lining I’m choosing to embrace (as opposed to the fact that I lost an hour and then had to pull an all nighter). If I had pendant lighting in the kitchen, this wouldn’t be an issue, but I don’t. As a result, my late night food pics are sometimes lacking. No matter what camera settings I use, there’s no substitute for natural sunlight. So. Yeah. About that night shift… This So-Yah Creamy Coconut… Read more >

Of all the companies at Expo West, I think I was most excited to meet Maddy (and Alex) of Love Grown Foods. Not only had I seen their delicious granola around the blogosphere, but I was familiar with their story – and both made me want to support their mission and help spread the love. As the wife of a start-up company that’s still in it’s infancy, I’m a big fan of the way they dedicated themselves to their business and created success without compromising either the taste of their product or their principles….
