About Elise

I’m a nurse. An exercise lover. A whole foods connoisseur. A health enthusiast. And I have IBS. No need to cue the sappy violin music yet... I’ve found that eating a mostly plant-based diet has allowed me to continue to live and love life to the fullest. Although moderation isn’t something I do well, I’m 100% devoted to giving my body pure, wholesome, quality food. Nutritious and delicious, all the time. Hungry Hungry Hippie is a way for me to share my daily dealings with food, fitness, and everything in between.

Status Quo

Like I mentioned in my last post, I was on night shift last night.  It was a pretty crazy day all around.  Usually Mondays are pretty chaotic in general because the hospital tends to come to a stand-still over the weekend.  As a result, Mondays are full of catch-up tests and procedures and whatnot.  This weekend was extraordinarily busy with the LA marathon…especially since the hospital I work at is located at mile marker 18.  Given the extra admits (runners), the spillover lasted well into Monday, and so my shift last night was on the… Read more >

Toxin removal

Vegas may be a blast, but in my experience, the aftermath is enough to turn you off of the place for at least the next few months.  I feel like the door hit me on the way out…and by hit me, I mean knocked me on my a$$. Oatmeal with apples, blueberries, and Sunbutter was the perfect morning meal to get my system back on track. I even went for a run,… Read more >

Vegas vacation

I dragged my feet out of bed Friday morning to squeeze in a workout (I wanted to start off our gluttonous weekend with one last healthy hurrah).  It wasn’t one of my best, but it was better than nothing.  While Kyle showered I made him a birthday breakfast of rosemary hash browns.  I baked the potato first in the microwave for 4ish minutes so it would sauté quicker.  Then I gave it a rough chop (hot potato!) and threw it in the pan with cooking spray, salt, pepper, and rosemary.  After the hash was done,… Read more >

Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas Give us your dreamers, your harlots and your sins Laaaaaaaaas Vegas…Didn’t nobody tell you the house will always win? You woke up in the rusted frame, Burned out old Deville Your legs are shot and they’re flushed with pain, But you can’t keep them still The sun sets and you’re afraid, Of the itching in your skin You stumble down the boulevard, Of neon encrusted temples You’re looking for the grace of God, In the arms of a fellow stranger Disciples hand you catalogues of concubines, As you stumble down… Read more >

Viva March Madness

If you caught on to yesterday’s hint, it’s true, I am in fact in the City of Sin. Rather than post while I’m here in Las Vegas, though, I’ll simply direct you to what was happening last year (and many years before) on this very important day. Happy Birthday Husband! Time to celebrate  🙂 Now back to the NCAA tourney.  For those of you who have filled out brackets, who do you have going all the way?
