About Elise

I’m a nurse. An exercise lover. A whole foods connoisseur. A health enthusiast. And I have IBS. No need to cue the sappy violin music yet... I’ve found that eating a mostly plant-based diet has allowed me to continue to live and love life to the fullest. Although moderation isn’t something I do well, I’m 100% devoted to giving my body pure, wholesome, quality food. Nutritious and delicious, all the time. Hungry Hungry Hippie is a way for me to share my daily dealings with food, fitness, and everything in between.

Ka’anapali eats

On the way to the airport! Starbucks to go! It has been SO MANY MONTHS since I’ve been to Starbucks I barely remember how to order! I packed lunches for the kids and one million snacks for us all, because I had no idea how long we could/would be held up at various points throughout the trip, but I didn’t pack a meal for myself! Luckily SFO has this awesome build your own salad/grain bowl place that had a killer menu. I could have ordered at least 10 different things off the menu, it all… Read more >

Empty the fridge

Before we went to Hawaii I managed to avoid the grocery store in order to do a fridge clean-out. And I did a DANG good job if I do say so myself (even if it meant eating meals I wasn’t super in the mood for). We had an al fresco meal with nuts, cheeses, bread, and fruit. It’s my new go-to on lazy days. The kids think it’s the fanciest and love that they can just help themselves to whatever. They still call it a “feast” like they did back when we first started doing… Read more >

Backyard bathing suit football

Since we were leaving town for my birthday, we celebrated it a bit early. It was literally the most perfect Sunday ever. We started with a lazy morning of coffee and pancakes. Followed by football. IN THE HOT TUB. The spa arrived the week before, so we were able to do the last few things that needed to happen before our inspection took place, and now everything is 100% done and it feels like the biggest weight off my shoulders. And we can fully enjoy the yard without wondering who will come wandering in through… Read more >

Surprise aloha

I was just getting kinda close to getting caught up and then we went and left the state for a week! Surprise! This vacation was actually rescheduled twice and I was super super skeptical it was even going to happen this time (due to all the covid prevention steps we had to take to get there)! Backstory: we went to Maui as a whole family (with my parents and sisters and their spouses) back in 2014 for my dad’s 60th birthday. This year, we were attempting to repeat it for his 65th! Alas, Hawaii was… Read more >

Breakfast lunch and dinner

Breakfast I’ve been super into buttery bread for breakfast lately. With salt on top too. Miyoko’s vegan butter is SO awesome on top of Real Phat Foods’ dairy free bread. PS in honor of their anniversary they are having a lot of giveaways and freebies on their site lately, if you have ever wanted to give their products a try. I have no affiliation with them and don’t get anything for sharing, I just genuinely ADORE their stuff. And want to spread the word because they are a small business and aren’t in stores outside… Read more >
