About Elise

I’m a nurse. An exercise lover. A whole foods connoisseur. A health enthusiast. And I have IBS. No need to cue the sappy violin music yet... I’ve found that eating a mostly plant-based diet has allowed me to continue to live and love life to the fullest. Although moderation isn’t something I do well, I’m 100% devoted to giving my body pure, wholesome, quality food. Nutritious and delicious, all the time. Hungry Hungry Hippie is a way for me to share my daily dealings with food, fitness, and everything in between.

Day 7: buzz and bye

From a former caffeine addict to decaf drinker…oh life. I had read good stuff about Better Buzz but we got a bunch of free coffee vouchers to the Peet’s at our hotel so it seemed pointless to leave in the morning for coffee.  But by the last day we had run out of the vouchers, so it was time to hit up Better Buzz for some java. Kyle was feeling off (he and I had a cold all week long) and didn’t want food, so he got a blended coffee thing.  I got a decaf… Read more >

Day 6: zoo day

Ugh.  This day.  So much drama.  I’m not even going to write about it.  Here are some photos… We went to Healthy Creations (yet again) because their menu has so many things begging to be tried. I got a strawberry smoothie and immediately regretted it. We came to a place that makes gluten and grain free fare and I ordered a smoothie?!?!  WTF kind of rookie move is that.  The “Berry Happy” smoothie was okay, but nothing great.  It had strawberries, raspberries, Goji berries, stevia, banana, cashew milk and cashew crème.  But honestly?  it just tasted… Read more >

A rough welcome

The first day of 2018 started off great, but by January 2nd, both kids were trending in the direction of the flu.  EEEK. We all got flu shots, but I’ve always had mixed feelings about the efficacy of them.  Not asking for a discussion here though!  In any event, I went to my first stroller strides of the year and had a blast. I had a kale salad for lunch with honey dijon kettle chips on the side. For dinner I made chicken in the IP using the thai dressing from Danielle Walker’s cookbook as… Read more >

Day 5: they like fried food

Because I couldn’t get cinnamon rolls off my brain, it was back to the hotel’s buffet for breakfast! After eating at other places we came to realize the adult buffet prices are not unreasonable.  In fact, with the kids being free, it’s actually kinda a deal.   And the best part of all is that P can get a greek yogurt for dosing. The kids had their first tater tots.  P said they taste like french fries.  Suddenly he knows what fried foods are!  Eek! I went back for more of nearly everything, including MORE cinnamon… Read more >

2017/2018

Last meal of 2017! Kyle grilled flank steak that I had marinated like this. And I made crab cakes. I had looked up recipes beforehand but didn’t follow any exactly because I only wanted to make enough for our foursome.  I didn’t actually think the kids would like them (I was wrong). I used half the can of crab meat and saved the rest for poke bowls (on the dinner menu later in the week), combined with an egg, green onions, old bay seasoning, salt, and GF panko. These are good to have on hand… Read more >
