My sister finally got to meet her nephew!!!
Even though I knew she was coming home, I couldn’t tell anyone because it was a surprise for her best friend’s bachelorette party. My immediate family knew, but I didn’t even want to tell any of my friends, for fear facebook postings would give her away. The whole thing went off without a hitch and my sister’s bestie was totally shocked when she showed up in Napa. And bonus for me, I got to see her for the first time in over a year!
What a ladies man.
Kyle was back from Colorado just in the nick of time and so we went to my parents’ house for a family dinner with everyone.
Taco night!
I got the special plate for my new job. 🙂
There are two non-fried corn shells underneath all that lettuce, tomatoes, Daiya cheddar, avocado, baked cod, and lime juice. Perrrrfection.
The drink of the night was this amazing Roscato Rosso Dolce. I don’t normally do wine reviews on HHH because everyone’s tastes are different, but this was SO freakin good, I think everyone should go out and buy it to try asap. It’s sweet and fruity, but not too much so. Definitely more of a dessert wine. And it had a slight fizz to it. I fell in love hard core and begged my dad to give me a bottle to take home (because he bought a whole case).
My mom made an apricot and blackberry crisp for dessert, but I was so stuffed from the tacos I didn’t partake. Plus, there’s FODMAPs in both of those fruits.
Kyle was a fan though. Clearly. His was topped with vanilla frozen greek yogurt.
Popular boy. I went from having no help for over a week, to having 10 extra hands all at once!
But I still got some time with him. 🙂
The rest of the weekend couldn’t quite live up to the fun of Laura’s visit, but it was still nice to have Kyle home again.
I signed the official paperwork for my new job. It was 100+ degrees in Davis. And those are basically the highlights.
We also did another al fresco dinner in the backyard. Loving these summer evenings relaxing with my boys (told you they’d become a regular weekend tradition!).
This week’s spread included: smoked salmon, green grapes, crackers (Mary’s Gone original crackers for me, Milton’s original multigrain and The Original Mariner Biscuit Co stoned wheat crackers for him), goat cheese (smoked cheddar and gouda), and smoked almonds.
I’ve already reviewed or mentioned all the ingredients except for the smoked salmon.
I found Gerard & Dominique seafoods products at the Co-op and decided to go for the wild caught coho salmon prepared “Northwest style” as opposed to the more common lox style.
It was really good!
The meal was made complete thanks to the bottle of Roscato gifted to us by my popsicle. And I’m now officially obsessed with this wine.
I didn’t take pics of much else over the weekend. It’s nice to step away from the lens. And all devices really.
I made Kyle a big strata for his breakfast(s) and stuck to my overnight oats.
My stomach was a total mess thanks to some poor judgment on my part (read: late night cookie gobbling). And I think I’m going to have to do some super clean FODMAPs free elimination days this week to re-set my gut.
This was like a superfood powerhouse creation with goji berries, chia seeds, hemp seeds, almond milk, oats, and cinnamon.
This was a less inspired snack, peanut butter and bananas on Udi’s GF white bread.
I have been slacking on the veggies lately, but I guess my taste buds just aren’t in the mood. My body knows best (and since I’m breast feeding I’m just trying to honor the fact that I’m craving the most calories dense foods possible).
And on a completely unrelated note, this weekend was the one year anniversary of a very important day. The day my life changed forever and ever. On June 9, 2012 (at 3 am) I found out I was pregnant. And the rest is history…
Ah now I really want to try that wine!
Love that photo of you and P!
Lovely family times. Hope your tummy is back on track, and you are excited about your new job – yay for the special plate 😉
Hey to P x
cheers
Lori
That picture of P sleeping on your chest…oh heavens. So sweet.
and glad your sister got to meet him and congrats on the new job!
I am loving the snack try. I have decided that one of these nights I am going to make up a snack tray/plate and make a dinner out of it…with some win, of course!
Elise, I LOVE your site and am a regular reader as of a few weeks ago. I googled vegan cheesecake which brought me to your site and I have been addicted ever since! (P.S. I made the cheesecake and it was a HUGE hit-thanks!). I was wondering if I missed an announcement of your new job? I am a nurse myself and was just curious what path you are going down?
Thanks!
I’ve been on vacation for a week so I’m catching up….Congrats on the new job!!!
That picture of you and P is beautiful. So much love in one photo.

I agree with everyone, that photo of you and P is so beautiful! Mamahood looks real good on you!
I still can’t get over how your family uses the same “You are special” plate that we do. Must have been a popular item in the eighties 🙂
Congrats on the new job!

You and your sis have the same face. 🙂
Damn good looking ladies! Oh, ya, and pacman too (whose first words were heard only by me “auntie Laura, please move back home to the US” – honest, he really said that!)
Such great pictures! Congrats on the job. Your P is the cutest. Looks like life in Davis is good.
Congratulations on your job! So happy to hear that Kyle is home for a while- although you did an amazing job of handling the single parenting! I’m super impressed.
First of all, GREAT family pictures!! Secondly, I’m lovin’ the al fresco dining experience! As soon as it gets warm enough down here in L.A. area, my hubby and I are going to enjoy a few of those a week! I love to eat that way! If I could snack all the time, I would!!
