Flying from Bellingham to Seattle to SFO to JFK required some SERIOUS eats. Fortunately I had vegan options up the yin yang gracias a Mr. and Mrs. Kyle.
8 am – medjools
9 am – board flight #1
10 am – land in seattle
10:30 am – set up shop in starbucks (implied caffeination x2)
11 am – open “family size” bag of Glutino pretzels
11 – 12 pm – lose track of time AND number of pretzels consumed thanks to the hottness that is Puck [swoon]
12:30 pm – mad dash to board flight #2
1 pm – ignore the fact that you’ve polished off half the 14 portions of the family size bag of pretzels and instead dig into a DKB/Amy’s burger sando
2 pm – one word: annihilation
2:15 pm – flight #2 arrives in SFO (*terminal 1)
2:30 pm – boarding begins for flight #3 (*terminal 2)
*all passengers must leave and re-enter security when going between terminals 😯
2:45 pm – remove outer shirt layer due to sweat stains from the past 30 minutes of sprinting through the airport
2:50 pm – realize you and your fiancé would DOMINATE on the amazing race based on aforementioned terminal chaos
3 pm – demolish the most massive freezer bag full of veggies EVER
4 pm – creep out fellow passengers as you take a picture of your oat fudge bar
Ingreds: filtered water, cocoa powder, canola oil, walnuts, brewed coffee, chocolate chips, brown rice syrup, rolled oats, soy milk powder, shredded coconut My verdict: YUM!
5 pm – fellow passengers turn off lights for (ridiculously stupid) movie
6 pm – pitch black apple (this is actually the 3rd of the day)
6:30 pm – family pack shcmamly pack; West Coast time zone + East Coast time zone = time for 4th meal (adios Glutino pretzels)
10 pm – satisfy chocolate cravings
10:01 pm – brainstorm more creative names than “organic food bar,” although they DO get bonus points for the afterschool-special message
Ingreds: Organic Almond Butter, Organic Dates, Organic Premium Blue Agave Nectar, Organic Dark Chocolate chips-Non-Dairy (Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Cocoa Butter, Organic Chocolate Liquor), Organic Brown Rice Protein, Organic Bio SproutsTM – Flax, Organic Bio SproutsTM – Quinoa, Organic Sesame Seeds and Lots of Love! My verdict: Like the Amazing Grass chocolate bars, but better. Much better. A bit calorically dense for a bar (310 kcals per bar), but good for shutting up your hunger passing the time on a cross-country flight.
12 pm – land in JFK
12:30 – succumb to the boy’s begging & pleading and reluctantly hail a taxi (I prefer public transit…there goes my amazing race theory)
1:15 am – collect packages from doorman
Zevia!!
2 am – realize work starts in 5 hours
2:15 am – hit the sack
“realize you and your fiancé would DOMINATE on the amazing race based on aforementioned terminal chaos”
I have done that with my hubs before…and alone. And in fact have done it in SFO before. As well as ORD (ohare), Miami, ATL…pretty much yeah, I’m no stranger to sprinting. And it’s the terrible hurry up and wait syndrome, too.
Those Glutino pretzles are good. But I’ve only ever eaten like 10 at a sitting. I have a salt phobia. It’s well rooted. Salt + me = massive water retention so I have to put limits on those things but they are good.
What’s good looking is that fudge creation!! Did you make that? I expect a recipe when you’re back in the groove!
Oh and you know how you juts did a post on vegan, but you dont like labels, and for some people, it’s easier to just say yes, I am vegan. Rather than trying to justify the less than 1% of time you’re not. I just had a commenter like that. She’s like you know, if you use choc chips that arent vegan then the recipe’s not vegan. I’m like yes, but you CAN use designated vegan chips, I just did not. B/c I dont care that much. Esp on some recipes. But why do people get so hung up on labels and details?
Sorry for the bible-length comment, but I’ve missed ya!

Oghghgh just reading this post made me tired. I’m already dreading our inevitable trip back to the US where us and our dogs and cats will have to make the 24 hour trip to the states. Misery.
At least you had delicious food to keep you going! Love the look of that oat fudge bar…yummy!
Haha that cracked me up to see you playing the “connect the dots” game, I grew up playing that too!
Have a great day! 🙂
Holy wow, lady. You’re all over the place! Here’s hoping you get a restful night of sleep to help you recover.
LOL this cracked me up.. I would have polished off that family bag in no time, as well. Pretzels are my weakness… Ive only had those GF ones once but enjoyed how “thick” they were…
The passengers that you creeped out simply do not understand the bloggy world. … if we saw someone take a pic of a food item we totally would not think twice..lol
I hope you get some rest! And eh, I’ve seen people do much stranger things besides taking food photos 🙂
Oh, my goodness… this post makes me glad I shelled out the extra money to fly direct when I go on vacation!! 😉
<3 <3
1. i thought your dark apple was chocolate covered at first glance. i thought “how the heck did she do that on an airplane”
2. it’s early and my head is not on screwed right (see how i just phrased that and im too lazy to backspace) and so anyways the entire time im reading this i’m likeee uhhh how in the world did she make all these freezer foods.
…not realizing that your proooobably prepared them ahead of time.
doh.
p.s. bloggie meet up soonish?
Mmm, love me some Puck! I’m drooling over that oat fudge bar almost more than I’m drooling over Puck. Puck vs. bar – that would be a tough choice.
The dot game! Always good when you need to kill time!
Good luck @ work today
You dominate at life woman! I woulda killed those pretzels also…I murdered a family sized bag of salt and black pepper kettle chips on saturday which I’m pretty sure is not a positive thing….but it was delicious!
Phew. Hope you are not dead after so little sleep!
hahah hilarious post girl!! youre a beast!! i love pretzels..once you eat one you have to eat the whole bag, its required
I swear, connect the dots and hangman were the only things that kept me mildly sane on my 16 hour drive to south carolina last summer.. that, and snacks.. obvi.
enjoy the zevz… black cherry is god’s gift!
hahahah this just cracked me up. Sounds like one crazy day. I love the terminal sprints, Ive been there waaay too many times. Its so hard sprinting with a carry on bag in one hand and extra large coffee in the other. Who needs workouts while you travel?=)
Have a great day! Enjoy the stevia, it rocks!
Oh Puck, how I want you.
I also would have killed that bag of pretzels. Actually, I think on my flight back from SF I killed over half a bag of pb-filled pretzels. So good.
You two should do the amazing race! I’d definitely watch.
So date, Tuesday, what is this place you mentioned? You know what? Maybe I should text you or something. This is incredibly nerdy. Then again, I don’t mind that.
SEE YOU TOMORROW!!!
what a busy day of traveling!
jenna

Wowowowow. what a day!
PUCK IS HOT STUFF! He definitely makes the show all the better 😉
R.I.P. Glutino Pretzels… They lived a short but meaningful life.
Um, I’m still silently LOLing at work while reading this…haha…you dorks!
Puck is hot like (gg’s) Chuck. And both remind me of someone i’d like to f-………JUST KIDDING!
Had to. Whooopppps! Okay, so anyways–loved your day in the life of a traveling hippie 🙂
I actually saw those pretzels when i was at the grocery store this weekend….would you say they’re better than newman’s??

LOVE YOU!! LET’S CHAT SOON!?! We haven’t in forevs!
your glutino restraint is BEYOND admirable…they are so dang addictive!
i love your bible length comments
yes!
I feel like you are probably the only other blogger I have found that understands the need to eat three or more apples a day. : )
