A day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium

We made a BOLD decision this Sunday to do a day trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I won’t bother you with the details, but it wasn’t intended to be a day trip.

We made the most of it nonetheless!!

There is SO MUCH for an animal/science lover to geek out on, so pattycakes was in his element all day long. Thank goodness he can read on his own now!

Highlights for me were the various feedings we got to see, especially the deep sea one. Watching schools of tens of thousands of sardines circle the tank avoiding the bigger fish while the mahi mahi and hammerhead sharks have literally just fed on their (non-living) sardine buddies is a marvel.

I was also mesmerized by the jellyfish. How can you not be?

The cafe had pretty good options and an amazing view!

I got fish tacos and the rest of the fam split two kinds of pizza (cheese and pepperoni).

They were pretty close to plastic free as far as I could tell – with metal and paper plates, metal silverware, and no to-go cups at all (not even for coffee!). I love that places are becoming more and more aware of how small changes help reduce waste.

These kids are growing up too quickly!
