The best kept secret in childcare is about to be burst wide open. At least for Davis peeps.
My kids’ ABSOLUTE FAVORITE activity is Awana. Yes, they like sports too. But nothing and I truly mean n o t h i n g, can top their love for Awana. That said, if there were one thing to top their love for Awana it would be MY love for Awana. It’s basically vacation bible camp once a week. Oh and did I mention it’s drop off? Which means, Kyle and I have a built in weekly date night between 6:30-8:15 for which we don’t need to get a babysitter.
Woohoo!
This was back in September, the first night we took advantage.
We went to Zumapoke in Davis (always a hit with me!) and then walked around downtown, browsing book stores and doing nothingness until we picked them up.
Considering they are usually in bed by 7 on normal nights, the 8:15 pick up was a bit of an adjustment for us all. But this is their second year doing it, so they know the drill. We eat dinner and take showers/baths beforehand so that as soon as we get home, it’s straight to bed.
Followed by dessert for the adults.
This meal was from Cafe Bernardo, and was my first time eating dinner there. I’ve gone several times for brunch, but finally made got to try the other menu.
I really enjoyed my salmon and would definitely go back, even though the service was a bit slow.
Chocolate platter du jour.
Kodaiko was highly anticipated after months and months of hype around it’s opening. The chef, Billy Ngo, is the same founder/chef/partner of Kru (our number one spot in the area) so we figured it would be great, but perhaps we should have waited for them to work out some of their kinks.
For one thing, the menu is really really small.
We got the karaage (fried chicken) app to share, followed by the tonkotsu (pork) ramen.
Sharing ramen is impossible, FYI. But two bowls of ramen would have been too much. My rec? They need more appetizers/starters so that you can share a bunch of things.
At least we had plenty of room for dessert! We made the mistake of walking over to the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and basically bought everything in sight.
Needless to say, this was a very sweet ending to the date.
I wish I had more than just 3 dates to show you, but alas, Kyle’s work travel definitely takes over at certain times of the year.
