To even try and show all my food over the past few days would be impossible. I’ve just been livin’ it up. So happy!
Friday
I woke up at 5 for work, but my stomach was realllly unsettled. I quickly threw oats, cinnamon, NuNaturals stevia, raisins, and carob chips in a baggy to take to work. I rarely eat so early in the morning (even on work days), but for some reason, my stomach’s turmoil was leading me to believe food may be the answer. I still got my usual soymilk-ified Starbucks, obvi.
The night before work, I divided Amy’s Southwestern Vegetable soup into two containers with extra frozen veggies.
Half for work, half saved for later.
In total, I packed another soup/salad combo, plus carrots, raw crackers, and apples.
Livin’ Spoonful’s Pesto Pumpkin Seed raw crackers.
This was another great one…I was skeptical since I’m not the biggest fan of Italian flavors (ie pesto), but the spices were very subtle and, as with all the other crackers, these were delicious. The pumpkin seeds combined with the flax and sunflower seed base made for a similar texture, but with minor flavor differences. I can’t wait until this company gets big and famous because they are SOOOO good, and the sooner I can buy them in stores the better. Go to my store and buy them now! The only down side is that you’ll get addicted and then be in the same predicament that I’m in.
Lunch was perfect, as usual. And work…well work was fine since I knew I had my friend’s weekend visit to look forward to.
Oh, Amy, how do you do no wrong? Can you see the grill marks on each of the corn kernels? In a canned soup? Now THAT’S impressive. The Southwestern vegetable was another winner, and with the extra veggies, it was seriously filling.
Dinner? I was rushed to get the apartment ready and shower/change outta my scrubs, so this meal shall be captioned “welcome to the ghetto”.
At least I got around to getting a plate? Way to class it up, Elise.
That hummus never stood a chance…after the roll was gone, I took to other various instruments for dipping (pretz, apples, carrots, etc.). Once my girl arrived, we sipped tea into the wee hours (well, it was late for me…she was still on Pacific Time).
Saturday
First things first, coffee.
Later, Kyle went for a run, Ethel showered, and I snacked on a Cookies ‘n Cream Delight Luna bar.
Meh. So so. Sometimes I’m feeling the frosting, other times I’m not, and today was a “not.”
My apple is the one on the left 🙂
Which I enjoyed while we strolled through the park.
It was a gorgeous day.
We made our way through the park, then headed to the WTC, where I grabbed an iced soy misto from the ‘bucks. Iced coffee = happy times.
Then we hit up the South Street Seaport & Wall Street, and finally met back up with Kyle to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.
To my fave Thai restaurant in. the. world.
Joya has been on our hit list before leaving NYC because it holds a very special place in our hearts. It was one of the first places we discovered that had cheap, generous portions of really, really delicious food. Too bad it was in Brooklyn :( Still, I hadn’t been since our anniversary dinner way back when, so this trip was long overdue.
Kyle got the Kang Panang Gai with sliced with peppers and crushed kaffier leaves in a peanang coconut curry sauce.
Ethel got the Pad Thai with chicken, peanuts, egg, and bean sprouts.
And I got the Tofu Pad Khing with sautéed with mushrooms peppers, cabbage, carrot and onions in a fresh ginger sauce.
So effing good. No doubt about it, we all left with our bellies full.
Luckily (?) the trek back to Manhattan was long (thank you jacked-up weekend train schedules), allowing ample time for digestion.
Straight off the bat, we went to Boat Basin to watch the Kentucky Derby.
J’adore Boat Basin. All winter long I lust after the day the weather will change JUST for this place to open (it closes for the cold months). The outside ambiance, the waterfront views (what’s up dirty Jerz!), the fun, laid back, European attitude…I love it all.
I pounded by B minus in 5 seconds flat, and was on round two and then three and then before I knew it, I was drizzunk. The proof is in the pudding:
Evidently I switched to Rum & Cokes at some point in the night…
While I’m a bit mortified to post the (above) photo, the (below) picture is very disconcerting.
Because Ethel’s skin color makes me look like a ghost child, she will be the furthest bridesmaid from me on the altar. Fake tanner anyone?
100% sober in love
At some point, we decided to leave Boat Basin to walk home and take a boozing hiatus play drinking games. After washing our feet (seriously), we popped the champagne and got down to b’ness.
In case you had any doubts, let my Sunday hangover serve as a reminder that playing drinking games with champagne is probably one of the worst ideas ever (duh). Despite the fact that I learned this in college, my mind was already altered, and the night was only downhill from here on out…
From this point forward you will see a highly edited version of the night.
Kyle managed to step on gum on the TOP of his flip flop?
Vegan advertising? At 2 am? Um. Sure. Why not?
Weird signs, and bras hanging from the ceilings could only mean one thing…Bourbon Street!!
Speaking of off bar decorations…
Not the most normal of ads to have on the big screen at a bar, right? But, then, I was the girl taking a pic of it, so you decide…
Sunday
Needless to say, the next day was pretty brutal. We met a few friends for brunch at Kingswood in Chelsea.
I got an unpictured coffee with soymilk and the Rocket salad. I was nervous because the salad sounded a bit boring, but to my surprise, it was exceptional.
With no agenda whatsoever, we hung out at Kingswood until nearly 3 pm. Then we made our way to the Chelsea Market, where I did a bit of grocery shopping.
One Lucky Duck, indeed!! I felt like I was on top of the world…and the two raw blondie macaroons were most likely the reason. Love.
After tasting our way through the place, we strolled over to the waterfront, then hit up the High Line.
My computer is about to crash, so I’m posting now, and I’ll finish this insanely long post later.
umm drinking games w/ champagne! very high class e&e. so wish i was there w/ you two! have loads of fun! xxxxxx
Oh yum, yum, yum! That luna bar actually looks really good, I haven’t seen that flavor, but it sounds like something I would like!

Looks like a very fun weekend! About the tanning issue— Did you know the new healthcare reform is putting a tax on tanning? So i’m thinking pale is going to be the new tan!
I’m impressed that you could function that well with a hangover! I usually have to clear my schedule!
i love how you went just about everywhere in the city. my fiance and i spent the weekend like that, too. we walked across the brooklyn bridge, went to central park and hung out at the reservoir, and walked from west side to east side and back. so beautiful. i’m seriously in love with this city. it’s good you’re getting out so much before you leave!
no gum on the top of flip flops, though. i consider myself spared.
Whoa. All that Thai food is making me seriously hangry.
Gah, what a fun weekend!! Can I just say that I am so jealous that you were wearing a tank top without a jacket into the wee morning hours!? I want summer please.
