Weather forecasts are such a joke. Foolishly, we keep looking and planning based on what we see and as it turns out, 99% of the time it’s sunny.
So we have been living at the pool.
I started the day with a green juice from Choice (I got it the night before when we were at Whaler’s Village for dinner). The “face-time” has kale, cucumber, parsley, apple, lemon, ginger, and pineapple. It’s sweet from the apple and pineapple, but not too sweet and has ginger and greens so you know that makes my belly happy. I’m not usually into parsley or cucumber in my juices (they tend to overpower) but it was subtle in this case. I liked it a lot.
We were only at the pool for a bit that morning because we had to pack up and head to our next place. We actually stayed at three different places, although the first and third were the same just different rooms, because we started planning this trip over a year ago and as time went by we kept adding to it. It started as a week, but then we were like, wellll, we are flying ALL THE WAY over there, so we may as well make it two weeks. You know, to really make it worth it for the flights (the price and effort to get two kiddos across the Pacific is no small feat!). Plus, one week is barely enough time to adjust to the inevitable jet lag. So we booked two weeks. And then a while later we added a few more days on the front end…and before we knew it we had a 16 day vacation!! No complaints. If you take one trip a year, it better be a good one. So that’s why we had only a few days before relocating.
While waiting for check-in at our second rendezvous spot, we went to downtown Lahaina for lunch and shopping.
We love Lahaina Coolers 🙂 They have stellar home-made hot sauce and the guy who runs it is super friendly. The above mahi mahi was split by the kids, while Kyle got the burger and I opted for the kalua plate.
And then it was off to the banyan trees.
The kids fell asleep in the car after that and since our room still wasn’t ready I took the opportunity to do the grocery shopping while Kyle waited in the car with the snoozing babes.
As soon as we checked into our room, this happened. They saw a kids hula show at our hotel the night before and were SO into it, so I figured we could pop into an ABC store to get some cheap hula costumes for them.
For dinner we walked down to the Westin to order Island Cobb salads (for us both) from the pool side restaurant, Auntie’s Kitchen. They changed this salad a bit since the last time I was there but it was still awesome. Here’s the link to my post featuring the old version of the salad. It still has many of the same components, but the dressing is different and now there’s pork belly and seared ahi too. It ruled.
