I’m royally sore today. It must be the rollercoasters (because I didn’t work out yesterday). Unless you consider shoving toddlers out of the way to get to the front row of the parade a workout…not that I did that.
For breakfast I wanted something cool and something crunchy. So I went with a smoothie topped in granola.
The smoothie had frozen strawberries, soymilk, Antioxidant Natural Greens, and ice. With Love Grown Clusters of Oats on top.
It was great, but I was really just passing the time until lunch. Why so stoked for my mid-day meal? Because I was meeting up with this lovely lady!
Lynn from the Actor’s Diet! She was kind enough to commute to my neck of the woods after her audition to join in a Huckleberry meal.
Anyone who knows me knows I love Huckleberry. Just look at the So Cal section of my restaurant page! So when Lynn suggested it, I was more than on board. And then when she offered to bring me some gluten free bread from her stash I was absolutely thrilled!
I’m always eager to see the daily salads. This raw kale salad sealed it’s fate in my trio at first sight.
The other choices were equally as easy for me – quinoa salad and white bean puree. Done and done. I don’t think there’s been a time I’ve been to Huckleberry without getting this dip.
The quinoa was great, simple, but great. I sopped up the white bean puree with the fat slice of sourdough they gave on the side. Heavenly!
And the raw kale salad was great too! The massive golden raisins and sweet citrus dressing were awesome.
After parting ways with Lynn, I dropped off the Silver Hills bread she gave me and headed out for some afternoon shopping. My dad’s birthday is today and my sister’s birthday is on Friday. Oh, and my Aunt’s is on Thursday. Can you say birthday stretch!?! Starting with Alene’s yesterday I have four days straight of fiestas.
Happy Birthday DAD!!! Can’t wait to celebrate with him this weekend doing our triathlon together. 🙂
After shopping success, I returned home, polished off my leftovers, and hit the road on my bicycle.
6 miles later, I was hot and sweaty and parched.
Lemon water 🙂
For dinner I took a survey of the fridge’s contents.
Swiss chard sautéed in soy sauce, lemon juice, and agave.
Plus chickpeas.
Took 10 minutes. Tasted like a gourmet meal.
Then I added Artisana cashini butter…
…and…whoa!
I wanted this to go on forever and ever. And ever.
After dinner I had two bowls of nuts (I picked out the cashews and almonds in the assorted nut mix). I’m sure Kyle will be really pleased when he find the nuts are no longer assorted. All that’s left are brazil nuts and pecans, therefore making them completely sorted.
Wow, this almost turned into a WIAW post…I only missed a few cups of coffee, apples, swipes of hummus, and candied ginger…otherwise I captured almost everything!
What’s the busiest birthday month for you?
Cashini? Sounds AMAZING.
Mmm…what a wonderful day! That swiss chard is BEAUTIFUL! I love the colours! We’re growing some in our garden, so I’ve been eating handfuls and handfuls of it in my veggie stir fries, and it tastes divine. Your variation with cashini sounds delicious. I got the most amazing container of roasted salted almonds from Cotstco, upon seeing them on your blog I think…those babies are DANGEROUS, lol! 😛 November is the busiest month for me – two cousins, my Mum, and my boyfriend all have birthdays…so fun! 🙂 xyx
I’m in the same boat right now! Boyfriend Sat, Aunt Mon, Best Friend Wed, Friend Fri, then Brother on the 15th!
I have to go to Huckleberry.
It all looks so amazing!
Birthdays ALWAYS seem to come in groups!! Have fun with all your celebrations 🙂
yay! wanna do it again!
That bean puree had me at hello.
I love simple gourmet meals, especially when you don’t expect them to come out as good as they do 🙂
Well..this month’s been pretty busy even though I only celebrated two birthdays. They just so happened to be for a 2 and 4 yr old, though so that’s probably why it seemed so extreme!
Thanks, sweetie. For me it’s even more crazy this week – with my good friends’ BDs: Pat B (7/23), Mario DeT (7/24), Al S (7/25), Mick Jagger (7/26), Barry Bonds (7/24). Ha ha. Can’t wait for our tri this Sunday.
Looks delicious! My two favorite bloggers..I need to find a way to make a raw kale salad that tastes (or as I can imagine, how good it tastes based on the gorgeous way it looks) that good! And happy birthday to your dad!
That kale salad looks phenomenal. So does the swiss chard for that matter – you are good at making greens look tasty. 🙂
I love when people cherry pick the nut bowls and leave behind all the Brazil nuts b/c I love me some Brazil nuts! Pecans too – we should hang out at the nut bowl together.
I want to come to So Cali and eat at Huckleberry with you.
P.S. Cashini makes everything better!
awesome ride! do you have a road bike? where do you ride, isn’t there a lot of traffic where you live?? 21 questions over here! 😉
You asked which month is busiest for birthdays? It would have to be January! My daughter’s is the 1st. My sister-in-law’s is the 7th. My grandson’s is the 11th. And his mom’s, my daughter-in-law’s, is on the 14th. Yes, four birthdays all within two weeks, and all just after Christmas!! YIKES!!! But it’s great fun!
And all that kale and white bean dip looks absolutely yummy! I don’t think I would have any leftovers to enjoy later on!!
LOVE huckleberry. Used to live just a few blocks away when I was living in SM. So expensive though! I once had a sweet potato, goat cheese, egg & spinach dish that was maybe the best breakfast I’ve ever had. I didn’t know eggs could taste that good. The kale salad looks fantastic, I need to whip one of those up at home!

the only reason i had leftovers was because breakfast was pretty much right before….otherwise yes, it was SO good.
i have a mountain bike. im cheap and so its the same one i grew up riding in HS and college. theres a lot of traffic which is why biking is so much better…santa monica isnt very traffic-y and very bike friendly though. plus i know all the best side streets to get around that are the most bike friendly roads to take. 🙂
