Reunion weekend

I grew up with this family as an extension of my own…our lives revolved around soccer and traveling for tournaments and because they had four girls and we had three, our families were basically inseparable.

Unfortunately we all have way too much stuff going on in our lives and getting together is nearly impossible.  But we made it happen!  We got a majority of us all together!!  [Sorry Laura and Emily! You were missed]

These two were born only a month apart and I look forward to the day when we send them off to soccer camp together just like we did way back when.  They became besties in 20 minutes flat and were joined at the hip for the rest of the day.  It was pretty much the cutest thing.

Potluck style!  I got assigned pasta salad so I used the tomatoes and basil from the garden.

“Who is going to eat all these tomatoes?” she asks while picking them and putting them straight into her mouth instead of the bowl.

I made a creamy sun dried tomato sauce with mayo, sun dried tomatoes, garlic infused olive oil, onion powder, salt and pepper to toss the pound of freshly cooked pasta in.  And then added fresh basil and cherry tomatoes.

Happy kids!

They skipped naps and were playing in the pool so hard they didn’t eat lunch until 2:30…and let me tell you…the 8 pm bedtime routine was pretty heinous.  But!  We had a goooood lunch!

My parents brought salmon and my “second mom” brought this taco salad.

It was gooooood!  I asked her for the recipe, so I will deliver on that as soon as she gets it to me (updated: recipe below!).  It has crunched up Doritos in it, though, so we can just pretend it’s a weekend treatyoself kind of meal.

We hit major traffic going home and the kids were totally melting down by the time we dragged them into the shower, but finally finally fiiiiiinally I got to dig into this toffee chocolate almond square from Lula’s.

So amazing.

On Sunday we had another reunion of sorts.  Our friends who moved out of town came back to host their son’s birthday party in Davis and so we got to see our entire preschool and church community and I didn’t want to leave!  It was a blast and the kids got to eat pizza and rice crispy treats, which meant I didn’teven have to hassle with their dinner!

We grabbed poke bowls for us on the way home.  Zumapoke once again!

We basically got the same bowls, except that Kyle’s had more alliums in the form of garlic edamame and green onions.

Since I was bringing it home to eat, I added avo once we were in our own kitchen.

Excellent way to end the weekend.
