Hey look! An office!
Now my crap is actually semi-organized.
Kyle was getting really tired of seeing FODMAPs research articles and GI studies piled up all over our old apartment, so he gifted me some file cabinets in the “office” of our new place. Such a romantic, that one.
As you can see, the casa is coming along quite nicely.
Our extra bedroom is big enough to double as an office and workout room. And guest bedroom, of course.
While unpacking we found a box of electronics that would make Steve Jobs roll over in his grave. Seriously, there were flip phones from the 90s, iPods from 2002, and cameras that didn’t even show a digital image on the back. The best discovery of all, though, was a cd with a free AOL demo. Kyle teases me a lot because I’m a bit of a packrat, but I was pretty embarrassed that certain things had evaded the trash for so long. I had cords for appliances that haven’t seen the light of day since college. Even Salvation Army would have rejected most of the things we found! Much to Kyle’s delight, we managed to reduce 3 boxes of electronics down to one ziplock bag.
And when it came to the closets…
Purging can be so therapeutic. I finally enforced the if-you-haven’t-worn-it-in-a-year rule (which actually extended to if-you-haven’t-worn-it-since-moving-from-New-York). Let’s just say, I’m barely left with anything but scrubs and running gear. Note to self: get a life [so you have a reason to get a real wardrobe].
Our bedroom is nearly done (the above photo is from a couple days ago so it’s actually even more put together now).
And then there’s the kitchen.
I’m pretty proud of how it came together. The pantry still needs a bit of work, but at least everything is put away somewhere.
Not so sure about this oven…
Outside is pretty bare, but once we have a few months to financially recover we have our sights set on a fire pit.
And since this post is already all kinds of random, here’s another new purchase.
They aren’t pink, but my new Toms are still the cutest damn things ever. I smile every time I look down at my feet. 😀
If you weren’t jealous of the free AOL demo or the Toms, maybe this will bring on the envy. We are now within a few blocks of the Santa Monica Co-op. Hallelujah!
The salad bar has avocado! Have you ever seen a salad bar with avocado? Golly green beauty! I was so excited I made Kyle blush bury his head in shame as I leapt up and down with joy.
Then I proceeded to add the equivalent of 3/4 of an avo to my salad. I showed amazing restraint in not adding more, too.
They also had teriyaki tofu, so I made a nice little monster for dinner with kale, spinach, shredded carrots, red bell pepper, quinoa, and nutritional yeast.
This epic creation blew my mind in such a phenomenal way that I had the same thing the next night. But that was the end of it. Yup, my kitchen is back. So now I’m back.
Hopefully I remember how to cook.
Yeahhhh…I think I’m gonna be okay. 🙂
Your new place looks great!
Love love love the purple TOMS!!!
Your place came together pretty quickly! And awesome closet situation, you each get your own! I also love your TOMS, I have some coral ones I got this summer and they really do make me smile!
Your apartment is beautiful! I wish my kitchen was that nice.
I have a giant box of ancient electronics too. It’s such a tangled mess I just keep adding to it rather than dealing with the monstrosity. It’s hidden in a closet where I hope no one EVER finds it.
The TOMS are adorable. Bought my first pair a couple years ago and now live in them. They are excellent travel shoes.
The Rainbow Acres food store in Culver City has avocado on their salad bar! I work nearby, so I hit up lunch there once a week on average. It’s so tasty!
the new place looks so spacious! love the hardwoods and the kitchen space.
and love the Toms 🙂 are they really as awesome as everyone says?? i need to just go and try em on myself…
what a cute place!! and you have a GORGEOUS kitchen!!!! so no excuses to not use it 😉
Your place is looking cute already! And love the Toms shoes — I have a pair of sparkly shoes from Payless that make me smile also. It’s the little things!!
That meal concoction looks amazing! I keep thinking that if I were to try and throw things together like that it just wouldn’t work, but I think I am going to make myself try…it just looks SO delicious.
Congrats on the progress! Moving is such a pain and purging really helps. I always feel so free when I get rid of things.
Have you ever been to Mrs Winston’s Green Grocery in SM? I have a friend who lives down the street and I love their salad bar.
Hey there! I love your kitchen!! Great job getting organized!!
OMG! My mom has that oven!!
Your new apt looks beautiful! And I LOVE that bookshelf in the office/guest room/workout room. It is so cool!

Cute shoes, love purple! Man, the oven in my new house is CRAP…. it seriously burns everything it touches… makes me so angry – saving for new oven=starts now 🙂
The pad is looking great… ah new beginnings, so exciting. De -cluttering is so grounding I reckon, getting rid of STUFF is so good. It’s amazing how much crap you accumulate, huh?
Those are some cute toms. Target now has a knock off version, and i’m really tempted to buy them. I hear they have the potential to make feet smell. That’s my one concern. Any problem with that?
if you are running marathons in them, yes, theres some odor issues…but otherwise no.
yes! its crazy.
no, i have to go!!!
yes. they are. 🙂
awesome. feel free to send me more recs…im making a master list.
haha…just bring the whole mess to an electronics recycling center.
ahhhh, coral would be sooo cute!
How do you figure out which cords you can toss??? We have two garbage bags full of cords, and I’m afraid to throw anything out in case we find the camera that goes with one cord, or an ipod that goes with another… What was your process for de-cording your life?
Your new place and those TOMS are so cute! 🙂
Your new place looks great! I know how great I feel after a move when everything is unpacked and set up — hope you guys are feeling a sense of accomplishment!

Omg I LOVE THE KITCHEN!!!
Seriously so gorgeous!
I tried to mail-order Tom’s 2 weeks ago. Ended up with nothing b/c they were a half size too big and they don’t make my size but I want some Tom’s, so badly!
since i had a box that hadnt seen the light of day in 4 years, it was pretty safe to bet i wouldnt miss any of them.
Looks like everything is coming together nicely! I did most of my purging before my move, but I was still surprised at how much I was able to do without while I (slowly) made my way through the unpacking process…ugh, I loathe unpacking.
I am totally jealous of the Tom’s…I swear I am the only person who can’t fit into a pair of them. My normal size is too tight and the next 1/2 size up is too big! :(((
How in the heck did you end up with a stainless steel refrigerator and an oven from the 1970’s??
GOOD EFFING QUESTION!
