[Somehow this post got erased but I just recovered it (tech skills?) – so it’s from nearly a month ago]
Good on their own, simple soups like the above are also excellent recipe starting points.
Remember this cheater soup? Or this one? Or this one? It’s kinda the same process. Imagine’s soups are great for this blank canvas kind of cooking. Trader Joe’s makes similar products. And Amy’s has some good ones too.
I made this meal my own by adding fried tempeh.
Tomato for him, butternut for me.
I added peas and a dash of paprika to mine too.
My tempeh sunk to the bottom because my soup was thinner, but it was there.
This was my first time trying TJ’s tempeh and I liked it. Usually I buy the LightLife kind, but Trader Joe’s was where we did our weekly grocery run this time, so that’s that. Don’t read into my choices, I’m not very brand loyal when it comes to tempeh. As long as it’s organic I’m cool. And cheap. Price indicates most of my decisions.
I’m still not a tempeh lover (I can’t get over that nutty sharp aftertaste), but Kyle prefers it to tofu so I have been buying it more. He likes it plain in sandwiches too. I guess he’s a better vegetarian than I am.
P.S. I’m 6 months and getting bigger by the day. It’s so weird to watch! I had a few really great workouts last week so there doesn’t seem to be a correlation between my bump size and my fitness routine. I am just going with whatever I feel like without pushing myself too much.
About the food–I can’t eat soy, so I can’t comment on the tempeh situation. However, you are adorable.
From below the boobs to below the butt, you can’t even tell that you’re pregnant (from pictures anyway.) Also, I can’t believe you’re already six months along. So exciting!
and this is an old post!!! im actually 6 months and 3 weeks now. 🙂
I love adding peas to my soup! Haha any kind of soup!
So I used to work at TJs and I can verify, they basically just repackage name brand products. So yeah, LiteLife tempeh and TJs tempeh are one and the same. 😉
Ah ha! Above comment confirms my suspicion about tj’s tempeh! I am often making “stewp” in the winter and just last night mixed tj’s frozen mashed sweet potatoes with the butternut squash soup, added a can of chick peas and half a bag of spinach and a handful of oat bran to help thicken it more- and it was amazing!! Love these posts about easy everyday food 🙂
Ummm- why did a tempeh photo get added to my comment? Haha!
??? i dont see a tempeh photo?
This is a great post! I’m not a fan of bisques or blended soups because my brain doesn’t feel full unless I’m chewing! These are some great ideas for making those types of soups – which are quite tasty – more filling and satisfying. Thanks! 🙂
