Interview with a vegan

If you are wondering what a type A person looks like before a job interview, here you go:

Prepping slash watching the seconds on the clock tick by.  SO nervous.  Keep your digits (all of ‘em) crossed for me.

After an hour of selling myself offering to give up my first born child for the job, I noshed on a colorful bowl of strawberries and apples

It was still gloomy weather when noon arrived, so I felt like a warm comfort sammie.

Tempeh fakin’ bacon.  I bought this on a whim (and because it was on sale).  I really want to like tempeh, so I’m trying to slowly immerse myself, starting with more disguised products like the above.  It wasn’t bad for a (processed) meat alternative, but I could definitely taste the fermented, bitter tempeh flavor hidden in there.

Melted cheddar Daiya + tempeh “bacon” + steamed kale

I figured the kale canceled out the over-processed portion of the sando.  That’s how it works, right?

I had a hefty dose of Vitamin A on the side with my new crush, D’s BBQ sauce

I’m going to sign off for now since my sister’s flight is arriving soon and I have to go pick her up at the airport.  It’s so nice to live close enough to family that a visit can be an impulsive last minute decision, rather than a long planned cross country trek.

OH!  I almost forgot!  The winner of the CoverMate Food Covers is Courtney

Among many of her entries, she said “Cover mate covers are made of FDA food safe materials…shower caps are not!”  Congrats  Courtney!  I know these will be put to good use in your home.  Now hit me up with your mailing address so I can get the goods headed your way.

I still have another couple of giveaways coming up soon…but for now, I’m going to enjoy the weekend with my sister.  Hippie out.

I’m with you – I’m just into tempeh. I tried, I really tried. But Daiya makes everything better!

    Hope the interview went well!

I don’t think you can do this with the fakin’ bacon, but with other tempeh, you can steam or boil it to get the bitter taste out. I do this especially when I am just going to use the tempeh in a crumbled up form (my favorite is tempeh “sloppy joes”). I’m sure the google will have more precise info on the best way to steam/boil and how long to do it, but usually I just cut up the package of tempeh into 4 rectangles and boil for about 15 minutes and then drain it. I find the taste is much more neutral that way.

    Hope you got the job!

I just got daiya last week. It’s good, mostly. I have to figure out what to do with it. I don’t really eat cheese usually so I guess I will have to start getting creative 😀

Are you kidding me?!? Courtney as in me?! I never win anything! Is it really me?

Good luck on the job! How do you feel the interview went? I will keep my fingers and toes and eyes crossed for you!!

Too bad you’re not a fan of the fakin’ bacon–I’m kind of in love with that stuff.
Keeping my fingers crossed that you got the job!

Good luck with your job interview!

I find that tempeh is like eggplant, the longer you cook it and the more seasoning you add, the more the “bitterness” is masked.

Ah, interview prep. Glad to see there’s another Type-A person out there going all out..the line about selling yourself/first-born child inspired a giggle – is there anything short of saving the world that we don’t express in our resumes and cover letters 🙂 ?
    Enjoy your sister!

I’m loving the tempeh “bacon” sandwich! Looks delish! I’m still in need of trying out that “cheese”… as it’s everywhere in blog world!

Good luck with the interview and enjoy the weekend relaxing with the sis!!!! Love when that happens. 🙂

  12. Lisa

Did you cook the tempeh bacon or just put it on your sandwich? I’ve never eaten it right from the packaging, but I love-love-love it all crisped up in a skillet first.

Hope you get good job news soon!

  13. elise

I ate it plain…I bet it would be good crisped up on the skillet, thanks for the idea!
