In honor of Meatout

Yesterday, March 20th, was Meatout

I blogged about the campaign last week, which encourages veg friendly peeps to spread the word to their family, friends, and/or anyone else who is receptive.

In honor of the day I took my sister (who is already very into plant based foods and vegan-friendly dining) to a few of my favorite hippie places around LA.

Actually that’s pretty much all we did these past 3 days.

Hey, I have to send her off to Australia in style, right?

I’m so sad that she’s leaving without a return ticket in just two weeks.  But I’m really glad we got to spend the past weekend together.

I owe you reviews of Seed Bistro, Mendocino Farms, and Larchmont Bungalow.  Feel free to check out the menus and guess what I ordered.  🙂

And a double-decker vegan brownie recipe that I made for Kyle’s birthday.

Too bad I have to return to work the real world now.  And on a Wednesday no less.  Way harsh Tai.

I want you to take me around LA to your favorite hippie places. How can we make that happen?

I actually LOVE traveling without a return ticket, it feels so freeing! Also, I’ve considered trying to go without meat for a certain period of time (like trying it for a month and seeing how it makes me feel), but now that I’ve found out I’m intolerant to soy, I’m not sure what I would eat! Any ideas?

Very cool. I did not know about “Meatout” day but I will be ready for next year. Great idea, thanks for sharing.

Try meat free! If you still do dairy greek yogurt has great protein, lentils, beans, bean and grain veggie burgers, seitan and anything made with seitan, quinoa, hummus, nuts and seeds, chia seeds and nutritional yeast would be a great start…

agreed! there’s more than soy to be meat free…nuts, grains, seeds, beans, lentils…are all quality nutrient dense ingredients that can help you branch away from meat without relying on tofu…
theres also seitan (made from vital wheat gluten), which is my favorite faux-meat alternative – i have a few recipes to make it yourself on this site. but you can swap chickpeas into just about any recipe that calls for meat.
