On Saturday, December 8th, Kyle and I were joined by some of our best friends to celebrate our little bundle of joy.
In just 8 weeks, he will be here…unless some of our friends’ guesses are correct…
His due date is 2/7/13, but I’m a numbers freak, so I’m hoping it’s a multiple of 5. Unless it’s the 15th. I have a gut feeling about January 30th, but who knows. I bet a dollar on it though. 🙂
Our friends also tried to guess his length & weight, as well as his name.
I can promise you it’s not kurt tupac jerry dieden (too many inside jokes to explain).
As for his weight, (fortunately) nobody guessed anything over 8 lbs…wishful thinking? Or self fulfilling prophecy? We will see…
Anyway, I’m getting ahead of myself.
Kyle, my (youngest) sister, and I arrived a little early to help set up gawk at the food. And take photos.
We missed you Laura!
Aside from the insane amount of food Alene and Ethel made, Sabra hooked me up with tons of stuff to bring too – hummus and salsa galore!
They spoil me so much, I have to pinch myself all the time to figure out if I’m dreaming or not. [I’m not!!!]
I brought a few of my faves, plus a new one (basil pesto).
Think we had enough food??
You know who else spoils me? My girlfriends. I mean, look at that spread! Everything was labeled (vg=vegan, v=vegetarian).
I’m sure I missed a few items, but you get the idea. For me, the orzo salad was a highlight. As was the guacamole and bruschetta. Okay, okay, so were the pita chips. Gah. Too much yummy stuff!
And then, there were the desserts!
The oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and the carrot cake were both vegan. But since I was a total cookie monster, I didn’t have room for the cake. Don’t worry, we took it home with us, so I’ll be sure to fill you in on how it is later (I’m pretty sure I already know the ending though).
As you can see, it was a gorgeous December day in LA, and we took advantage (of both the weather and my hair not being in a ponytail) by taking lots of photos.
And in case you’re wondering (I was) Kyle said he was hiding his sunglasses in this picture.
The shower was co-ed, so Kyle’s man friends were able to join in the fun.
The baby bottle beer guzzling contest was hilarious, but it was even more fun watching the awkward attempts at diaper changing and feeding.
Kyle actually won this duel, so just image how bad Billy did.
Then it was the girls’ turn. They had to guess the size of my belly without touching me.
Ethel kinda cheated (it’s true, don’t try and deny it) by standing next to me.
Apparently I look larger than I really am because everyone was way over!
The best part was when I put my ribbon around Kyle’s waist afterwards (he wasn’t too thrilled with the ugly truth). 😉
About half way into the shower our son’s playmate arrived. 🙂 I love that our little guys will only be ~2 months apart.
Such a cute family!
Baby J is only two weeks old and already so much bigger than when Kyle and I first met him (a week before).
Cindy and her little dude. Seems like our joint babymoon and her shower were just a second ago!
Marie, the baby whisperer, was the only non-parent able to rock him without crying and lull him to sleep. And the whole time I kept thinking “score, I have an awesome babysitter!!!”.
So adorable! Cindy made fun of me for taking 836,102 photos of her baby, telling me I was going to be a crazy paparazzi once my own came along. And I’m positive that’s true. But look at this face! How could I not!?!
And did I mention all the sweet presents we got! Clearly, I have awesome friends because this was one of the best days.
I know you’re supposed to get more anxious as the due date approaches, but I’m actually starting to feel more and more prepared. I’m excited, Kyle’s excited, our family and friends are excited. With all this love and support, it’s impossible to feel anything but joy and enthusiasm for the future. I’m not saying the idea of labor makes me want to skip to the hospital, but knowing our family is growing makes me over the moon.
It’s official. You win at having the best friends ever. Also, I don’t think you look that big! You look cute and glowing, to be honest. 😉
you are the cutest pregnant woman ever. You wouldn’t even know you were – just an adorable bump!
You have some awesome friends who threw you an awesome baby shower! It looked like so much fun! And, I have to say you look gorgeous and glowing in that picture of you and Kyle. The lighting from the sun helps with the glow, but you look soooo good 🙂
I can’t wait to read your blog after your little boy gets here. Hopefully you only post when you get time and you don’t stress out over it. I want this blog to be something happy for you because it would be way different if it wasn’t. You are going to be a great mom and I’m sure I will get tons of ideas from you when I get ready to start a family 🙂
Pregnancy looks AMAZING on you! I can’t wait to “meet” your little guy, Elise! xo
I have participated in one of those baby bottle chugging contests and it’s actually really hard!
it must be because they only got a TEEENY amount out. but ive also heard that a newborn’s stomach is the size of a pea or something, so its not like theres room for mega chugging.
you are so sweet lara. i want our little boys to meet!!! move back to ca!!
thanks so much brooke. its so nice to get comments like this. they really make me feel optimistic about the future. seriously. it makes my day.
i often wonder what will happen to this blog once i am consumed by all things baby. i think itll be very much like what you said…at first ill probably be super overwhelmed and go awol for a while. and then once i figure it out maybe ill still be able to pop in with some regularity. only time will tell…
ummm, you are officially hired as my maternity pumper-upper. if its not a job now, it should be.
thanks clare 🙂
What a cute shower! And I love when people actually label food, it makes my life so much easier…
Hahahaha, its so funny to me that in the same way tennis players are sponsored with nike clothes and products that your hummus habit is supported and sponsored by sabra. I am insanely jealous 🙂 looks like a fun party with amazing eats!
And i LOVE the name guess of “kale”……..!!
right?!?!?!
Looks like a wonderful party! You look so great- glowing! I’m excited for you guys. 🙂
Auntie Skype’s guesses:
Due date: 2/8/13.
Weight: 9lbs 5 oz.
Length: i have no idea the average baby length…
🙂
You have more influence on your due date than you realize! My due date was 10/19/01 but I didn’t like the prime number in the middle, made me feel very uncomfortable. Plus… my mother had me 2 weeks early, AND John Lennon’s birthday is 10/9/01 so I figured why not bump it back a few days? I also loved that it was a palindrome. I just focused on that “goal” of having the baby on the 9th and guess who managed to have her baby on 10/9/01 ?! I consider it one of my greatest mind over body accomplishments.
btw – it was completely natural: no induction or C-section. that was pure brainpower!
i love it! im a FIRM believer in mind over matter/the power of positive thinking.
kyle has a “feeling” about jan 14th. i guess we will see who’s feelings are stronger…haha.
9 lbs 5 oz?!?! you a-hole.
his length is already estimated to be 18 inches, so…yeah…i dunno.
you said Kyle was a big baby…so I’m just being realistic here 🙂 I was gonna go double digits, but I dialed it back for you…
oh, well in that case…you’re so sweet??
btw, i like that youre bday guess has an 8 in it.
haha yeah I had to. I was going to make the weight 8oz, but changed it to 5 for you. Again, always thinking of you, my dear sister
Pingback: Old to new
those 3 oz will definitely make all the difference. ps did you know that maries due date was 8/8/88 and mom still agreed to get induced early!!! what a bummer!!!
My brothers’ (plural, they’re twins!) birthday is 2/7. But my boyfriend has an awesome birthdate, he was born 6/7/89!
I know such a bummer! I could have had the same birthday at JC Chasez!!!!! hahaha
I cracked up at the suggestion of Kale for a name. So funny!
freaking awesome thread!!!
