We slept through the entire morning.
In our defense, the travel schedule and time change was really working against us. Add to that the crazy late meal times in Buenos Aires…well it’s no wonder we slept in ‘til 11 o’clock.
So in lieu of breakfast we had coffee with soy milk and fresh bread.
I dunked my roll in my coffee.
We explored nearby parks and neighborhoods and eventually sought out a real meal.
Lunch at 5 pm? Why not.
We went to a recommended cafe called Mark’s Deli & Coffee House. The funny thing was we wandered in because we thought it looked cute and found out after ordering that it was actually the same place that had been recommended.
How could you pass up a restaurant with rainbow planters, benches, and awnings?
The menu was posted on the wall for to-go orders, but we decided to sit and get table service. They also had baked goods and amazing coffee creations [the guy next to us had a frothy frozen chocolate mocha whip cream concoction that Kyle and I were drooling over].
Anyway. We got a salad and sandwich to share.
Ensalada “new special” with arugula, cherry tomatoes, salmon, avocado, and oil & vinegar.
Tuna with lettuce, tomatoes, olives, and brie (on the side).
This meal was SO good. Kyle and I loved it so much we tried to go back later in the week (it was randomly closed though).
Between lunch and dinner we had wine and tapas on our balcony.
And by 10 pm we set out to find a nice dinner spot.
It was an interesting trek to get to the port, but we finally made it. There are a ton of restaurants in the Puerto Madero district and there wasn’t much rhyme or reason to which one we chose.
Puerto Cristal had a nice ambiance inside. We started with complementary champagne…don’t mind if I do!
And a bread basket.
And some cheese croquets (Kyle had both of these).
Then we got to ordering.
Gotta go with a Malbec.
I got a spinach salad with mushrooms, lentils, croutons and mustard vinaigrette.
Kyle got salmon encrusted with cornmeal on a lentil puree.
We strolled along the port afterwards and eventually got a cab home.
It was definitely well after midnight when we finally got to bed. Typical Argentina timing…
What times do you prefer eating meals? How about on vacation?
My eating schedule varies depending on whether or not I’m working that day. Dinners on work days are typically at 8 pm, but I eat way earlier on non-work days. I hate going to bed feeling full (it also gives me GERD).
SO jealous you’re in BA! We went about 5 years ago. We spent about a week in BA and the other 2 weeks backpacking around Patagonia. It was dirt cheap when we were there b/c they were rehounding from their recession, but we’ve heard it’s gotten pricey again. How pricey are your meals? Love the trip details. What are you doing for fun besides trying out awesome restaurants? Make sure to drink TONS of malbec!!
All of that food looks incredible, especially that salad with lentils! Was that on the menu or did you have to ask for it and specify what you wanted/didn’t want.
When I went to Mexico I found eating vegetarian to be very difficult :-/
Yum!
Everyone thinks I’m lame for my meal times, but given my OCD and work schedule, it totally works for me (and weekends are a different story.)
Anyway, not counting snacks and whatnot, breakfast is at 7 (at work) and lunch at 11:30. Dinner is around 5, but that’s only because I workout at night and have a big-ass “snack” (probably meal sized for most) around 9pm or so. It works for me!
The bread dunked in coffee made me laugh. All of your meals from BA look delicious…I definitely thought Argentina wasn’t very veg-friendly but looks like I was mistaken.
