Our last day in New York! Monday was bittersweet, I suppose. Although, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t more eager to get back to CA. Still, it was weird knowing that this would be our last time in New York for a very very long time.
Like every other morning, we made Starbucks coffee in our hotel room before heading out. For some reason I have never seen this African Kitamu blend anywhere else, but I was in love at first sip, and am now determined to get my hands on it. Has anyone seen it in stores?

We were going to head to SoHo for lunch, but then I realized what I really wanted was ‘sNice. So mid-route we switched plans and wound up in the West Village (it was only later via twitter that I learned ‘sNice actually has a new location in SoHo). Either way, I got my last meal at one of my favorite vegan spots.
Kyle and I perused the menu and then ordered at the bar area.
After so many meals of eating random tidbits at non-vegan friendly restaurants, it was a relief to have an entire menu of vegan possibilities. I friggin’ love ‘Snice and it had been so long since I was last here.

At my recommendation, Kyle ordered the Philly-style seitan sandwich, which comes with peppers and onions on a toasted baguette.
Kyle loved it and said the cheese was good, and even though it didn’t taste much like real cheese, it melted like real cheese. We asked afterwards and they said it was cheddar style Daiya. So far I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews for this brand.
Pretty legit, huh.
I was in the mood for something different. A sandwich, yes, but not an ordinary one. Then I spotted a newbie on the menu.
A sushi sandwich? Brilliant!
It sounds like a weird concept, but it was kinda amazing. It had tofu, pickled ginger, avocado, seaweed, cucumber, and plum sauce, all inside a toasted roll.
Like a big ‘ol sushi roll without the rice. Perfection in my book.
For the record, I had them hold the wasabi-veganaise since I wasn’t in the mood to clear out my sinuses. It may have been the most perfect sammie I have ever tasted. I am definitely going to try and recreate this on my own.
After lunch we packed up and headed home…back to CA! There were some minor hiccups in our travel plans and we ended up being delayed a few hours, thus arriving in SFO after midnight (just in time to miss the last BART train). My poor mom had to pick us up and we didn’t get home until 1 am (4 am East Coast time). Miserable. I think my love affair with Virgin Airlines is beyond over after this last trip.
That sushi sandwich looks delicious. I’m going to be heading over there some time this week for lunch! I’ll let you know what I think.
‘Snice sounds like such an amazing place to eat. Both sandwiches look delicious, I would have a tough time selecting one thing from the menu!
I so need to check out Snice next time I’m in the city! I love innovative vegan cuisine. A sushi sandwich is DEFINITELY creative, I’ve never seen anything like it.
Snice looks awesome – I love the idea of a sushi sandwich! I need to attempt to recreate that at home. Mmm…pickled ging. Delayed flights are the worst! I hope you got some sleep this AM.
